In early September 2024, Odesa Polytechnic University launched its collaboration with Euroatom, a subdivision of the European Commission, within the framework of the NUCLEAR RESEARCH & EDUCATION CAPACITY BUILDING (NURECAB) project. The main goal of the project is to enhance nuclear research and education in Ukraine and create new opportunities for young professionals in the nuclear sector.
On September 5, 2024, the project consortium's kick-off meeting took place in Kyiv. The project is coordinated by the National Science Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology," with leading Ukrainian universities as key participants:
- V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University;
- National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute";
- Odesa Polytechnic National University;
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv;
- National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute".
Odesa Polytechnic was represented at the meeting by Vice-Rector for International Relations, Viacheslav Shobik, who expressed the university's commitment to supporting the development of nuclear technology and education in Ukraine. The participants were greeted by Euroatom representative Kateryna Ptachkova, Head of the Department of Science Development of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Hryhoriy Mozolevych, Head of the Horizon Office in Ukraine Ihor Taranov, as well as several key representatives from international nuclear organizations.
Odesa Polytechnic plays a crucial role in this project. The university was also represented by the Head of the Department of Nuclear Power Plants, Volodymyr Kravchenko, and Associate Professor of the department, Oleh Zotiev. Their involvement in the project will strengthen the university's scientific foundation and create new educational opportunities for students and young researchers.
The NURECAB project is a significant step for Ukraine in advancing nuclear research, fostering integration into the global scientific community, and reinforcing cooperation with Euroatom and other European partners.
