Academic Work Verification

All academic works created at or submitted to the Odesa Polytechnic are subject to mandatory verification for the absence of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and compliance with the standards of academic integrity.

The author of the academic work is responsible for its preparation for verification.

Academic works are reviewed by experts – employees of Odesa Polytechnic who are specialists in the relevant subject area:

  • Scientific academic works (dissertations, research articles, theses, etc.) are checked by academic staff with the appropriate scientific degree and qualification in the relevant field;
  • Educational and methodological works (textbooks, teaching materials, lecture notes, etc.) are checked by methodologists or academic staff with the relevant qualification;
  • Individual student works (course projects and papers; calculation and graphic works, term papers, control works; bachelor’s or master’s qualification works) are checked by the instructors supervising these works.

To ensure objectivity, academic works may also be analyzed using special software tools designed to detect plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct. Such programs include systems recognized in the scientific community for automated checking of textual borrowings and inconsistencies. Verification using software tools is technical and requires mandatory analysis of the results by experts in the relevant field.

Odesa Polytechnic uses the Strikeplagiarism.com system – an IT tool for verifying the authenticity of text documents. The system’s task is to provide information on the amount of borrowed content in a text and its sources.

Access to the system is granted to responsible staff of departments, the scientific-technical library, the postgraduate and doctoral studies office, as well as the editorial departments of the university’s scientific publications.
