On the day of Ukraine’s unification on January 22, 2019, the three largest secondary schools in the city of Berdyansk, with the assistance of the city’s education department, took part in orientation-oriented discussions on nuclear energy, which were conducted by the head of the department of nuclear power plants at Odesa National Polytechnic University Professor Kravchenko V.P. with students.

He told high school students about the state of nuclear energy in Ukraine, its role in society and the opportunities to get a relevant profession. Odesa Polytechnic, which last year celebrated its 100th anniversary, was the first institution of higher education in Ukraine where the training of specialists for nuclear energy began. Since 1964, the ONPU NPP department has produced more than 3,500 specialists. The level of training is evidenced by the fact that among the graduates of the department are: heads of reactor and turbine workshops, chief engineers and general directors of nuclear power plants, president of the National Atomic Energy Generating Company (NAEC), the Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
The state allocates 90 budget places for the specialty “Nuclear power engineering”. Students enrolled in this important specialty receive a scholarship 40% more than others. The energy industry is interested in the effective work of the department of NPP ONPU and does a lot to improve its material and technical condition.

Young professionals at nuclear power plants enjoy all legal benefits. Credit is provided for housing.
The presentation of the delegation from the representatives of education and industry made a positive impression on the audience, who were interested in the conversation and asked many questions. Books on nuclear energy were handed over to school leaders. Pupils received booklets about ONPU, the department of nuclear power plants and reviews of the best graduates about their home university and department.
