From July 1 to July 7, 2019 the Second International Ukrainian-Turkish Summer Nuclear School was held in Kiev with the support of State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) according to a protocol signed by the Rectors of Odesa National Polytechnic University and Ankara University (Turkey) in 2017.
Now Turkey is actively working to resolve the issue of diversifying the sources of supply of electricity and is building its first «Akuyu» nuclear power plant. Therefore, cooperation with Ukrainian specialists is a priority for specialists from Turkey.
Last year, the First International Nuclear School was held in Odesa at the base of the Department of Nuclear Power Stations at the Odesa National Polytechnic University. It should be noted that the Turkish specialists have chosen to cooperate with the department of nuclear power plants of our university not by chance.
The Department of Nuclear Power Plants of Odesa National Polytechnic University is the basic department for the preparation of qualified specialists in the field of nuclear energy, which began its work in 1964. This year, the department will celebrate its 55th anniversary. During its activity, the department has trained almost 5,000 specialists. The high level of education at the department of the Department of Nuclear Power Stations ONPU is confirmed by the fact that its graduates occupy leading positions in the nuclear industry of Ukraine and other countries. The department has 10 professors and 4 associate professors who conduct atomic-related research in close cooperation with the Scientific and Technical Center NNEGC «Energoatom» and SSTC NRS.
This year, the Second International Ukrainian-Turkish Summer Nuclear School was held in the Park Hotel Goloseevo conference hall. At the opening of the summer nuclear school, an associate professor of the Department of Nuclear Power Plants at the Odesa National Polytechnic University, Zoteev Oleg Evgenievich, made a presentation on the activities of the department. Lectures for representatives of Turkey were given by SSTC NRS specialists. In addition, Turkish specialists were given the opportunity to visit Chernobyl and the Rivne NPP. Last year, a tour was conducted at ZNPP, namely at the Training Center for Repair Staff.
Turkish experts noted that the level of conduct and hospitality of the Ukrainian side is high, and the impression of the excursions conducted is extraordinary. The results of such cooperation are highly appreciated and have a high objective assessment in the future, however, it can already be noted that the holding of events in the summer school format is useful for both parties and will definitely have a continuation next year.
